S sallatsspikblad. – Perennial creeping herb, rooting at nodes, with arachnoid hairs which fall off during ageing.
Leaves with entire, suborbicular to reniform blades (usually wider than long).
Inflorescence an axillary, compound umbel with 1–3 umbellules, each with c. 3, ± sessile flowers.
Flowers without sepals; petals dark violet.
Fruit suborbicular in outline, laterally compressed, with 7–9 ridges on each mericarp.
N Bu Hurum 2004 (probably brought in with timber). – Used as a medicinal plant and vegetable, and widespread in tropic, subtropic, and warm-temperate regions. –
